Sydney is a great town for comedy, with a few really excellent clubs and a scene that’s always growing. Any night of the week, you can find something happening and chances are, it’s pretty entertaining. But the city really comes alive during the annual Comedy Festival. This year marked the tenth year of the festival and it was an overwhelming success!

Between the 22nd of April and the 17th of May, there were so many truly awesome gigs. I tried to attend as many as my budget would allow, but even then I had just scratched the surface. The line-up included Cam Knight, Heath Franklin as Chopper, Rhys Nicholson, Bob Saget, Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen, Dom Irrera, Jimeon and too many others to name.

My personal favourite event was Bob Saget’s live show. It was caustic, dark and definitely more twisted than I might’ve expected. Dom Irrera was another standout, with the legendary comedian hammering the crowd with his full-throttle gig. The Chaser lads (Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen) also turned in a surprisingly entertaining musical comedy show which turned out to be a festival favourite.

On two occasions I attended at the Enmore Theatre, and the sense of community excitement was palatable. Sydney is a city that enjoys a good laugh and is always on the lookout for good times and fun. There were literally thousands of people out on the streets well after midnight, waiting to see their show in long, rambling queues. The atmosphere was electric and it was fun to be a part of a crowd that was genuinely elated to be seeing some real comedy legends.

It’ll be tough to beat this year’s Comedy Festival, but there’s no doubt the organisers will come up with the goods this time next year. So here’s to another year of laughs at Sydney’s most outrageously fun festival!

People love comedy because it makes them laugh and feel good. When you laugh it has wonderful side effects on the body and can also change your mood. Besides being contagious, laughter releases endorphins which make one feel happy. The upcoming 2014 Sydney comedy festivals bring people together from around the world where you can enjoy a good meal, relax and feel comfortable.

Most people lead stressful lives, and enjoy watching a comedy which is entertaining and relaxing, giving one the opportunity to escape from the maddening crowd. Comedy provides light entertainment that the whole family can laugh and understand. Lines up this year are an array of impressive icons that will keep their audiences delighted and charmed with laughter.

If you have already missed some of the delights the previous year had to offer, you still have the opportunity to witness some of Australia’s beloved comedians. For example you can look forward to Effie Australia’s Logie award winning cultural icon and beloved loudmouth that says all the wrong things in such delightful ways. She is the perfect way to start Sydney comedy festival season. Effie has what it takes to get a laugh out of her audience.

In July at the Factory Theatre you can enjoy a high energetic comedic performance with the return after years of retirement is El Jaguarel, which comes on stage in tights. A comedian that has sold out crowds in both Melbourne and Sydney and is rated one of the top five is the lightest hearted comedian Ronny Chieng.

Another well know comedian is Simon Taylor who is very funny warm and entertaining and engages his audience right from the start. 2014 Sydney comedy festivals bring you the Old Fella Rod Gregory who is one of Australia’s funniest comedians and is enjoyed by all ages.
